PROTEST AGAINST PATRIOTIC LOTTERIES. [Per Association*.] AFCKLAND, October 11. The Baptist Union to-day carried unanimously a- resolution protesting against the legalisation of lotteries for patriotic purjwses. The Rev .T. Howard Lawrence was admitted as a. member of the union. Jt wa,s resolved to bold a. self-denial week yearly in aid of the home and foreign missions. The treasurer's estimates for the ensuingyear showed receipts £1292, and expenditure £862. exclusive of a special grant of £IOO for Timaru.
