The lull programi ue, which is now on sale throughout the city, is .sufficient in itself to guarantee good races, close finishes, and excellent sport. The aetu;:l trotting races will be -of considerable interest, as horses of real ability are engaged. The most important of these is undoubtedly the New Zealand Cup Trial Handicap, in which will appear Admiral. Wood. Our Thorpe, Knimeline. Country Belle, and all the other actual and aspiring chain-, pions ot tho local tracks. Altogether fn icon horses are booked to face the! starter in this race, which will take place at 3.20. tho distance being one mile and six furlongs. Plenty of other good races are on the programme, and hi all of them well-known performers figure. Some of the fields engaged wii> constitute records. For instance, the Commercial Travellers' Race for unregistered horses, has drawn thirty-six entries, the pedigrees of which are at once alarming and a musing. Screaming fun is promised m r* is race. As well off the track as on, the commercial travellers will be responsible on Saturday for a very great deal of fan and amusement. They have a scheme in hand, well organised and arranged, which promises at one and the same time, to give the public value for their money and a substantial benefit to the Patriotic Fund. The pony races for boys and girls have also drawn largo entries, and the public will probably bo surprised at the merit and skill of these youthful performers. Various attractions have heoyt provided for the spectators in addition to the. track events. At the Red Cross tent, cigarettes, cigars and flowers will be on sale, and various guessing competitions will bo actively pushed for- , ward by energetic canvassers. For the benefit of country patrons it has been arranged that excursion fares shall be granted from ail country stations. while the outgoing trains in the evening are to be delayed. Ample rcfjeskments will he available on the ground during the day, as arrangements have been made for handling a | record crowd.
