The chairman congratulated members upon the mioocss of Violet Day sale®. Mr C. G. Dftlgety (honorary treasurer) pro.'i-onted a report showing that the gross receipts were £76 i! 18s 4d, the expenses £3 19s 9d and the net t&ii lug* £753 18s 7d. It was decided to close the account and pay the amount over to the Patriotic Fund. The chairman said that the committee's expectations had been far exceed I ed. They aimed to get .CoOO., find the j very fine response to their efforts gave- ; great encouragement and was w good augury of the success of future enterprise' for the collection of funds for patriotic purposes. Votes of thanks were accorded to , Messrs Mason and Struthers, W. Minson, A. J. White, ijtd.j Careys. Ltd.. New Zealand Farmers' Co-op., Lewis and Anderson, E. Rsoce and Sons and Rattray and, Co., the Art Society, Bank of New Zealand, " Lyttelton ; Times" and "Press" for assistance in j connection with the Violtt Day ar- j rangements. A special rote of thanks was accorded to Mr G. L. Donaldson for his valuable services as honorary secretary. The Ashburton Patriotic Committee wrote asking the committee to bring Ashburton Violet Day (September 4) under the notice of Christchureh people likely to assist. Members of the committee undertook to do this, and Mr Donaldson undertook to forward any gifts of flowers received on September 3. Tlift question of amalgamation with ; the Daffodil Day Committee was discussed. It was stated that the Daffo- 1 dil Day Committee proposed to hold j a Daffodil Day on September 10, and j the Veterans' Association proposed to hold a Daffodil Day on September 17. The Mayor (Mr H. Holland) spoke in favour of co-operation. Mr Donaldson said the suggestion was that the Violet Day Committee should bo the nucleus of a new committee. Many of the members of the Violet Day Committee had already enro'led as members of the Daffodil Day Committee, but that committee ha/J now ceased to exist. It was decided that members should attend a meeting to be called shortly, and fho Mayor was invited to call such a meeting. The Mayor suggested that a meeting should bo hold at the Art Gallery at 2.30 p.m. the following day, arid this suggestion was accepted.
