DAFFODIL DAY.
'TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 17. STRONG COMMITTEE FORMED. A meriting of ladies and gentleman interested in the conducting of a Dafiodil Day for the Wounded Soldiers i Fund was held in the Art Gallery to- | day, the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) pre- | siding over a large attendance. The Mayor said that unfortunate de- | lays had occurred, but they oould not bo helped now. Although it was in- ' tended to have Daffodil Day on September 30 there was very lit*.e> time in ha.tid, and a luek's postponement would clash with other fixtures. He hoped that the Indies would co-operate in making the day a success, and the ladies of the Violet Day Committee had offered th.ir s-ervices. It was formally resolved that those present should form themselves into a committee to work with th« Sweet Pea and Carnation Society in carrying out Daffodil Day. Mr Jenkm said that according to a newspaper report the Veterans' Association intended to conduct a Daffodil Day on Bepteml>er 17 for the Veterans' Home, and, although he thought that this \n \j«'ot had been launched at the wrong time, he would not liko to see any harm done to them. The Mayor said that he had heard: nothing-of the Veterans' Daffodil Day, and no. permission had been given to the association for a collection. Tn the event of the meeting deciding to select September 17, he , could give an assurance that the priority or claim would secure the date for the Wounded Soldiers Fund. The Miyor was elected chairman, Mr F. C. Raphael deputy-chairman. Mr C. G. Dalgety treasurer, and Messrs Pixie and Donaldson joint secret f-rie?. Tl->e following were elected an executive comroit+ee:—Mcdames G'-uM. Lsne, Bond Jenk : n, Taylor, P'r'e. ! TMgeiy, Pyno, Raphael and Miss Tabart.
