OTHER IMPORTATIONS NEEDED.
GOVERNMENT STATISTICIANS REPORT. [Put J'rkss Association.] WELLINGTON. January 8. in a, recently prepared memorandum Mr M. Eraser, tho Government Statistician, reports on the wheat requirements of the Dominion. Taking the stocks as ascertained on November 18 last, be says that tho Government importations during January ami February. 191.3, and tho estimate; current harvest wheat, stocks in Nov.' Zealand will be exhausted by about the end of November, 191u. By about September 8, 1910, the stocks would be below those of last November, which were I'D per cent less than stocks of November, 191:3. It would be inadvisable to allow stocks to get- below those of November last, and it will probably be necessary to arrange for importations arriving in New Zealand from about the middle or the beginning of September. !f all stocks were freely marketed and purchases did not exceed tho actual milling requirements, the necessity for importations would probably not arise, so soon, but with the general knowledge of tho comparatively small and poor harvest, there will, no doubt, be a tencj'ency to bold stocks back. To counteract this it might be. advisable) for the Government to import an additional quantity of wheat about the end of Februarv, 191-3.
