DO YOU KNOW THE NATIONAL ANTHEM?

In the churches in most parishes in England the National Anthem is at least occasionally sung, either before or after the service. It is very rarely now that the second verse is omitted, and last week I (writes a London correspondent) heard the Bishop of Southwell say: "I hope when von sing the National Anthem you will sing it right through." Wo have ouce more found the necessity of praying that God will "frustrate the knavish tricks" of an unprincipled enemy. _ But there are four more verses dating from the end of tho seventeenth century or the beginning of the eighteenth which are probably known only to a very lew.. They are as follow: God bless our native land, May Heaven's protecting hand Still guard our shore; May peace her power extend, I'oe be transformed to friend, And Britain's rights depend On war no more. Through every changing scene, O Lord, preserve the King; Long rimy ho reign. Hi.; heart inspire and move With wisdom from above, And in a nation's love His throne maintain.

May just .and righteous laws Uphold the public cause, And bless our isle. Home of the brave mid free. The land or liberty, We pray that still on thee Kind Heaven may smile.

Nor on this land alone. But be God's mercies known From shore to shore. Lord, make the nations see That men should brothers be, And form one family The .wide world o'er.
