COMPLAINT OF FILM MONOPOLY

A deputation of representatives of picture shows asked the AttorneyGeneral to recognise the film as a necessary commodity. They alleged that tho film combine was passing 60 per cetot of the increase of film duty, which reiilly meant a protective, measure for a local industry, on to showmen with regard to millions of feet of films on winch no extra duty was paid. Tlu'9 meant that tho combine was reaping an increase of two to three hundred per cent. It would mean the closing of shows, throwing out five hundred musician*.
Tho Attorney-General replied that he was preparing a Hill to deal with combines, including pictures. He advised that tho matter should ho submitted to tho Commodities Commission, on whose- recommendation ho would act.
