THE VALUE OF SALT.
' • Salt a natural and necessary stimulant of the digestive organs, and is essential to good health. No parent •honld check a child'in the eating of salt. There have been some'wonderful instances of its utility in being adminiitered to young infants who are fed ■''•riiicially. Personally, I behave m •adding a small quantity of salt to every hottle of food given to a, baby. When a, child is fed naturally it obtains the necessary .quantity of salt from tho mother, but the proportion of cow's milk used is so small to the amount of water mixed with it that a i- : ule additional is absolutely essential. Mothers are' 'apt "'to he sparing with the salt, p-rhaps because it is so cheap, but, salt is- a most valuable substance, and is positively : necessary to life. It is.the principal t mineral const'tue'it in the blood, and . if the sumly in the system i« deficient [ the health suffers considerably.
