Manv of the public are desirous of knowing now the soldiers' and absent permit votes went in the recent "\\ airarapa contest, says the " Wairarapa News"' ; hut it is, we are informed, not *.ccordiiig to leguiation to supply this information to the Press. We can therefore only make an approximate estimate of the vot.rg of the absent electors'. Fifty-six absent voters permits were issued Some were not exercised, and some who had permits, d;d not go away and exercised their votes in the district. There wore understood to be 131 member * of the Expeditionary Force who voted. Sir Walter Buchanan's first total was increased in the final count from 3040 .o 3104, an addition of sixty-four. • Mr Hornsby's first total was given at b037, increased to 3164, an addition of 107, giving a majority of sixty.
