Tho secretary of tho Canterbury Football Leaguo has receded advico from the Hawko's Bay Management Committee that the Hawke's Bay team will play Canterbury on the Show Grounds on Saturday, August 1.
The Now Zealand Council has notified that W. Bussell (Sydenham) and E. L. Button (City), who have been .selected to represent the Now Zealand team against tho Englishmen in Auckland on August 1, will he required to proceed to Auckland on Saturday evening. Bussell has been selected as half for tho tearu, the south suburb's captam having impressed the selectors with has clever ana heady play. Button, selected as a forward, will have a strenuous task to keep pace with tho other forwards selected. His inelusion caused a surprise, as the general opinion was that H. Shanks would be the forward selected from Christchurch. Mitchell has been selected as reserve Dat> k- .„ , . ~ These- three players will play for the local Centre against Wellington at the Show Grounds on Saturday nest. Should the weather remain fine, a firstclass game should result. All the local representatives, Senior and Junior, must attend training to-morrow evening. Any member failing to do so will bo* replaced by the electors. At the meeting held by the Sydenham Club on Monday evening, the secretary reported that tho Ahuriri Club (Hawko's Bay premiership winners), the Suburbs Ciub (winners of the Wellington district championship) and the North Shore Club (Auckland) have _ all forwarded requests for matches against the Sydenham Club for the Dr Thaoker Challenge Shield. It is probablo that the Ahuriri Club will play here on August 8. A conference will bo held in Auckland on Saturday morning between Messrs J- H. Houghton and J. Clifford, managers of the Euglish team, and Messrs James Carlaw (president of the New Zealand Council) and J. E. Gleeson (Canterbury delegate) in regard to the possibility of a party of the Britishers playing hero on August 8. The local Centre has endeavoured to arrange the fixture, but, as it is understood that tho English team is scheduled to arrive in Sydney by August 8, the prosDPCts of a visit arc remote. The Caledonian Band will play suitable selections on the route to and at the Show Grounds on Saturday prior to the Wollinqton-Canterbury fixtures.
