SOUTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Aceliniatifation Society was held'in the Voiuntf.?r Hall. Temuka. on Thursday afternoon. There was a very large attendance and Mr J. S. Rutherford presided. • The chairman referred to the death of the. late Mr Howell, and proposed that a resolution of sympathy should be passed to th-i members of ljis family, he having been a life member of the Society and one who had rendered it good service. The motion was carried In silence, those present standing. The eighteenth annual report congratulated me-mlxjrs. on the continued prosperous condition of the Society. The revenue for the year had amounted to £613 ISs. The amount received for licenses had been £22 5s less than lait • year. Some of this decrease might be accounted for by the fact that the Ashburton Society had appointed agents in the Temuka district for the sale of licenses. 1 lie Society was improving the stock of fish in the river bv importing from other districts. ' The breeding of the mallard duck had proved very successful, 300 birds being liberated tfiis year at the Viishdvke"Lagoon. The Society had gone, fully into the question of fish yotids and had inspected various sites for this purpose. Shags were plentiful and the Society had paid out £42 17s 9d for heads and which was a large inerea.so on the amounts paid in previous years. The. balance-sheet showed the expenditure to Have been £SBO Is Bd, and the receipts £613 ISs. leaving a credit balance of- £33 16s 4d. Tncro was an excess of assets over liabilities amounting to £B9l 13s 3d. The. report and balance-sheet were adopted. The .secretary paid that three nominations for seats on the Council huO heeu received too late and consequently those names did not appear on the list of "t'&ndidatefi. The nominations had been posted on the Saturday but hu did not receive them until the Monday. After a lengthy discussion Mr L. (VCttlbghan moved that the secretary should ne commended for his correct interpretation of the rules, and that the nominations in. dispute should ba admitted by ballot. The motion was carried.

At a meeting of the Council held after the annual meeting .Mr .J. SRutherford was re-elected president. Mr W. G. Aspinnll vice-president. Mr A. Bufibell treasurer, and Mr AY. D. R-evell auditor.
