CAPTAIN JAMES MATTHEWS.

Shortly before ton o'clock last evening an old and respected seafarer, in the person of Captain James Matthews, died , suddenly at his residence. West Lyttelfon. The deceased gentleman was in his seventy-eighth year, and came to Lyttelton 'about forty-eight years ago, and subsequently took up a post in several small coastal wind-jammers, an occupation which he followed for many years. Of late the. deceased's health began to fail owing to heart trouble, and last evening he passed away suddenly. 1-His widow predeceased him some time back.
