Captain White, a son of the late Field Marshal Sir George White, armed with a blackthorn, headed a procession of Larkinites with staves, to demand that the Lord Mayor of Dublin should provide work for the unemployed. Captain White was ordered by the police to clear the road. After a serious conflict the police dispersed the procession with batons, injuring several. Three were taken to the Hospital. Captain White, who was injured in the face, was arrested. Captain White was admitted to bail on charges of assaulting an inspector, a sergeant, two constables and a mailvan driver. The inspector stated ho was struck on the back of the head with a blunt instrument while he was arresting Captain White. Meanwhile the latter struck him with a blackthorn in the chest and violently resisted arrest. • (A London cable message .in November stated that Captain James White, who was assisting 'Sir Roger Casement to form Irish National Volunteers, intended -to start drilling the strikers in Dublin.)
