Tannliaiiser was again an absentee from the track this morning. It would therefore appear as.if M'Grath was ex-perienoin'a-some trouble with the son of Martian—Grand Opera.
h'inaldo was not among the working brigade at Riccarton this morning.. His throat is .still giving M. Hob'bs some bother, and 1 am afraid the outlook is not very bright at present.
flops has been put into Work again 'it Riccarton. In the meantime he is the onlv horse that A. M'Aulay has m commission, but this capable young trainer should not' be long in having a few more horses to look- after.
Flora Macdonakl galloped a mile at Riccarton this morning, and pulled up quite sound. She will. I. understand, be a competitor at the Dmicdin -Jockey Club's meeting next week. ...
The New Zealand Metropolitan Trottino- Club's experiment of having +111: mile and a quarter race at Saturday s. meeting handicapped by yards has given Vise to considerable discussion among the trotting experts. One wellknown rider and driver summed the case up as the "Stockyard Handicap, because all the horses would get out together.
The Auckland handicapper, Mr I'. W.-Edwards, has evidently not a very high opinion of Eccentric aa. a ruomile harnpf- li»r*e. The grey gelding has .some smart mile porlormanoos in his credit, and at the Eorhury Park Club's meeting, held in February nl last rear, he von the principal -lymile'harness lace on lb' 1 second day in a howling gale ot in the uood time of <lmm 39 1-w'. This so impressed the club's handicapper. Air H. Brinkman, that the horse nas handicapped in the last New Zealand 1 rottine Cup at 4min 34sec. It is adnntted" that since the horse left \\ . Jones's care in the south he has not shown anything like his best form, but surely the. Auckland handicapper is taking'a great risk in only asking Eccentric to give away Bsec 111 the chief race at the Otahuhu Club's meetino-. to be held on February 25, the race being for horses that can do 4m in oOsec or better. It'looks as though lie is handicapped at 4inin 42scc, being thus let out Bsec for his bad since November.
A telegram from Wanganui states that the. o District Committee of the Waiiganui Jockey Club has removed the. disqualification recently imposed or. Thomas Pritehard. as from 'Wednesday night. When riding Sir Knox in the Manawntu Cup. on Roxing Day. Pritchard was adjudged guilty of interfering with Ladoga, and was suspended bv the stewards for the remainder of the meeting. When the Dist.net Commit tee met in January the penalty was increased to three months, but now a mouth later, the remaining portion has been remitted. A good deal of sympathy has been aroused for I'ritchard. on account of the accident winch kept him from following his occupation tor v„ lon<>-. I cannot help thinking, however, that in the present case the sympathy has been unplaced. Tnterlerence, whether due to carelessness or delibcrMte foul riding, is a very serious offence owing to the consequences which

, It is improbable that Ermengarde, by Charlemagne I!. —Watershont, willbe raced after this season. The- present intention is-to retire her to the stud and her first mate may be Polymorphous, by Multiform—Rumour, by Eirklspord—Eleusis.
The'matter'of straightening out the course tor short-distance events at Troutham is receiving serious consideration, and probably this important work will be put in hand in readhiess_ for next, season.' writes ''Sir Bedivere " in, the "Evening Post." ,' As the grandstand is at present situated, ;i proportion, of its occupants would, it seems, be unable to see the start of an event niu'.oh a perfectly straight six-furlong course, and for this reason a comproiniso- may be effected by laying out a new track with a slight pitch to the southward. Under such an arrangement the competitors would be faced with a dead' straight rim of three furlongs and a. half-ere-they met with the round course -near, the present home bend.
At ih" Tasmaniao Racing 'Club's mectinsr this month, the Wlwieh Handicap, one mile and a quarter, was ii\- Tornea. a six-year-old gelding by Stcnniak. his dam, Gipsy Countess, being" a sister to Grand Rapid*, by Gipsy Grand—Whirlpool.
\>\v Zealand horses keep on winning cm the Sydney pony courses. At )the iiosebfi-y meetina: early'this month.the I f 2 Handicap was won by Lalla', a three year old filly by Oblicadp—Cjrennica. Lalla is a sister to Tripoli, who 'ins successful in two races at the Ta'katnina Jockey Club's meeting last month. Tnsmnuian form.' is evidently very moderate at present. In the Hobarfc Cup this month True Knight ims ioni, eight among the starters with Bst 91h. lie figures among the acceptors for the Australian Cup. to be decided at th" Victoria Racing Club's meeting next month, and though let off with (Ut 111b. he is not specially tanned by anyone.
