The fact that the ancient- .Romans were acquainted with the use of lifts, and-put. them in their buildings, has been established by Professor Boni, who is carrying out- excavations on the site formerly occuoied by the palace of the Ctesars'on the Palatine Hill. He has found that three lifts were used in the palace, enabling the Roman Emperors to ascend from the Forum to the top of the Palatine. One shaft, which has not vat been completely cleared from the debris mid rubbish which encumbered it, is 120 ft deep. MONEY GOES
