AUCKLAND SCENES.

END NOT IN SIGHT. HOPES DASHED DOWN. AUCKLAND, November 12 (1.11 p.m.). There is but little change to record to-day in regard to the general strike. Hopes were entertained yesterday that the end was in sight. The commencement of work upon the wharves, the loading and unloading of steamers and the transportation of goods to and from the waterfront was taken to indicate that the strike was collapsing. It was declared that this morning would witness the return to work of many who had downed tools on Saturday, when ' temporarily infected with strike fever. Those holding this belief were calculating incorrectly. Out of 6000 men on strike, practically none have asked for re-employment. In the case of one firm employing 150 carters, six only applied for worn this morning. In the case of a second firm employing even more hands, there was not one contrite striker. Hopes were entertained that work would be resumed on the Exhibition buildings, but the work remains at a standstill there. The strike leaders profess themselves pleased with the developments. They say that the new Watersiders' Union consists only of farmers who cannot be spared from off their farms for ever, and that they are content to play a waiting game. "It is our policy to sit tijrht," said one. "We havo the seamen of Australia, and the London dockers and every trades unionist in the dominion with us. We can hang out till over Christmas if need be." STILL ANOTHER. BARKER ARRESTED. [Peb Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, November 12. Thomas Barker, a strike leader, has been arrested on a charge of using seditious language in Wellington. Ho was remanded to Wellington on bail of £250.
