FIRES.

[Per Press Association.] CARTERTON, November 4. A fire at Martinborough last night completely destroyed Messrs M'Leod and Smith's boot factory. During the day a leak was discovered in the mains and the water was turned off to enable repairs to be effected. It is supposed that one of the men employed in the factory upset some benzine which ignited and 60on the whole building was in flames. Practically nothing was saved as no water was available. The fire brigade was in attendance but was powerless to do anything.. The insurances are not yet known.
