THE WEATHER.
Fine weather prevailed in most parta of the South Island this morning and locally the bright sunshine whioli was in evidence had an additional relish, following as it did, on the cold easterly rain of yesterday. Blue skies were reported throughout Otago and Southland, but in the latter district a low barometer prevailed. Good weather was also experienced in Westland, but 'rain was reported from Farewell Spit and. other parts of the Nelson district. Throughout the whole of the North Island overcast skies were the order a-nd in the extreme north a considerable amount of rain has fallen. Variable northerly winds predominated throughout the dominion and an unsteady barometer with a falling tendenoy was reported from nearly all stations. The Government Meteorologist's summary and forecast is" as follows Freshening to westerly strong to a gale and veering by west to south after about twenty-lour. hours. The weather will probably prove squally and changeable. Bain is probable with snow in tho high country. The barometer is falling but will rise after about twentyfour^ 1 to thirty-six hours and then tho weather will.probably become very.cold.
