Thursday, Skftemisku It. (Before his Honor Mr Justice Denniston.)

A sitting in bankruptcy, followed by the continuation of the civil .sittings, „.vrs held at the Supreme Court, this morning,', before his Honor Mr Justice J>enniston. MOTIONS FOR DISCHARGE.

Orders for the discharge of the following bankrupts were made: —Ernest Charles Empson, William La very Oldman, Robert John Thompson and Leonard Pearson Nicholson (Mr Twyneham). The motions for discharge in connection with tho bankruptcies of Robert Pitcaithly and Charles Whitehouse were adjourned until September 22. ADJUDGED A BANKRUPT. On a motion by Mr Herman, Clauds Frederick Bylftinl was adjudged n banknipt.

CIVIL SITTINGS

JOHNSTONE v. OCEAN ACCIDENT AND GUARANTEE CORPORATION. The case of T S. Johnstone (Mr Gres:on) t. the Ocean Accident and Guaran,ee Corporation, Limited (Mr Myers). ias continued. Legal argument had .dosed the previous day's proceedings, and 011 the case being resumed Mr Myers replied,. after which his Honor . stated that he would consider his jt.dg- ! pient. , BURNETT AND ANOTHER v. CAVANAGH. "When the action William Burnett and Another (Mr T. W. Stringer, K.C., with him Mr Menres) v. Nora J. C'avanagh *'* [Mr Adams, with him Mr Hanlon) was ■sailed,'"it was announced that a settlement had been arrived at. The claim was for the rescinding of agreements ; .and the payment of £1915 6s 3d, or in the. alternative £SOOO damages. Mr Stringer stated that one of the terms of the settlement was th-it the plaintiff should withdraw the imputation of fraud contained in the ptate- . rnent of claim", and 011 behalf of 1 lie

. plaintiff; he did so. The terms of tho < settlement had been embodied in an ' agreement between the parties. Mr Adams said that he concurred with Mr Stringer, but it had also been agreed that judgment should be enterad for the defendant on the claim without ctists. and that the counter-claim should be withdrawn. Judgment was entered accordingly. The Court then adjourned until 10.30 l«.m. on the following day.

The following prisoners, who pleaded guilty in the lower Court, were sentenced to-day :—Archibald James Hopkinson; stealing from a dwelling, at Waikaia, two years' detention. jfpr reformative treatment; John; r.Quigley, '■forgery at Herbert, eighteen^months' 'reformative treatment.
