Thaw iii an automobilo was carried across the frontier and released in Vermont State, where the sheriff arrested him. The immigration authorities at Coaticook refused to account for their action, except by stating that they acted under the orders of. the Canadian Minister of Justice.

Thaw's lawyers and family were dumfounded. Thaw refused to leave tho Coaticook detention shed, and immigration officers dragged him screaming downstairs. Thaw fought all the way to the border.
