SIR OLIVER LODGE'S ADDRESS. (Received September 11, p.m.) LONDON, September 10. Lord Rayleigh, presiding, and an audience of 3000 listened to Sir Oliver Lodge's inaugural address, which was directed against modern materialistic ter encies. He urged belief in ultimate continuity as essential to science, and emphasised. that the non-appear-ance of anything perfectly uniform and omnipresent was no argument against its real substantial existence.
