EVADING RESPONSIBILITY.

SEEKS REFUGE IN BANKRUPTCY. [Per Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, September 10. An application for discharge in bankruptcy was made by Oswald James Malvern to-day at tho Supremo Court. It was opposed on the ground that in 'February' last judgment was given against the bankrupt for £4OO in respect of a motor-car accident, by which a seven-year-old boy sustained permanent injury 1 . Counsel contended that the debtor sought the protection of the Bankruptcy Court to evade his responsibilities in connection with the accident.

His Honor said he had no intention of granting the discharge, but he would adjourn tho application until the bankrupt had made a reasonable arrangement for the child.
