THE PRIME MINISTER.
IN AN UNCOMMUNICATIVE MOOD.
NOT DISCUSSING POLITICS FOR PUBLICATION.
The Hon W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, arrived in Christchurch this morning by the Mararoa from Wellington. The south-west gale delayed the steamer, which did not reach the Lyttelton wharf until 10.30. Soon after Mr Massey had stepped into hie railway carriage. Commander Grace, of H.M.S. New Zealand, waited upon him and had a few minutes conversation with him before the ferry train left port. On arrival at the Christchurch railway station, Mr Massey was met byseveral friends, and was driven to his hotel. There he was met by the Hon R. Heaton Rhodes, Postmaster-General, and the two Ministers, accompanied bv Mr R. Moore, chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, motored to Rangiora, where men of the New Zealand are being entertained. Mr Massey will attend the citizens' ball in honour of the officers of the New Zealand this evening. To-morrow he will receive interviewers and attend to other public business. He intends to leave in the evening for Wellington, where a great deal of work awaits his attention. He certainly was not In a communicative mood this morning. A " Lyttelton Times" representative went to port to meet him, and accompanied liim on the trip to the Christchurch station, but he laughingly put off all questions of a political character, saying that he had nothing to give to the newspapers just now. The' only information' he supplied-was that all the Government's policy measures are well forward, in readiness for the session.
