ARCHBISHOP O'SHEA.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES. [Peb Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, May 15. A jpioeting; of the;WeUjngton District Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society. Council, presided over by Brother J. W. Callaglian, last evening carried a resolution tendering his Grace Archbishop O'Shea the heartiest congratulations of members at the great honour conferred on him by his Holiness the Pope in creating him coadjutor Archbishop of Wellington and assuring him of the heartiest support and unswerving loyalty of the officers and members in the exalted position to which he has been raised and its consequent responsibility. Archbishop O'Shea had for many years occupied the position of chaplain of the St Patrick's branch, only relinquishing the position owing to the volume of work which he had to do on being appointed Vicar-General of the Wellington arch-diocese. His Grace, as chairman of the Wellington Catholic Education Board, which was inaugurated last year, was the recipient of a congratulatory message from his colleagues on the Board on his new appointment. The dominion executive of the New Zealand Catholic Federation also conveyed to his Grace its heartiest congratulations. Archbishop O'Shea _ was chairman of the provisional committee which drafted the constitution which had been adopted throughout New Zealand. He has proved himself a great organiser, and in him Catholic societies and organisations have a great champion, and his appointment is looked upon as a great factor for their advancement in the future.
