A hostile crowd of two thousand persons pelted them with eggs, flour and filth, destroyed the banners and overturned carriages, throwing out four suffragettes. The vicar noticed dense smoke and extinguished the fire before the brigade arrived. Paper stuffed underneath the pedals were fired and the organ ruined. Suffragist literature was left beneath. BOMB FOR MAGISTRATE. The bomb sent to Mr Bennett, Magistrate at Bow Street, included a cartridge with a percussion cap exposed and a nail driven through the lid. It would have caused an explosion if the postal date had been stamped over thenail. The parcel arrived while Mr Bennett was on the bench, hut was detected .and given to the police.
