OBITUARY.

. JAMES THOMPSON. Mr James Thompson, whose death occurred at Lower Riccarton on Saturday, came to Canterbury from the North or* Ireland in the early sixties. He was trained for the profession of a public school teacher, and commenced his professional career at the age oft eighteen. On his arrival he-found employment at the Harewood Road School, and afterwards taught successively at the "Woodend, Ashley, Rakaia and Cass schools. With the exception of a short period devoted to storekeeping and farming, he was teaching for about fifty years, continuing until his health failed a few months beforo his death. He will be held in remembrance for his kindly disposition by many pupils who passed through his schools, and by a large circle of relatives and friends. He leaves a widow, five daughters and six sons.
