BRITISH NEGOTIATIONS WITH
THE PORTE.
PROTECTION OF INTERESTS IN PERSIAN GULF.
By Tel«gr*ph.—Press LONDON, Mjay 13.
The "Daily Mail's" Constantinople correspondent states that a agreement will shortly be submitted to the Porte, transferring to Britain Turkey's shares in the section of railway southward of Bagdad to Bussora and Koweit, settling questions affecting Britain in the Persian Gulf.
The " Daily Telegraph" states that the Bagdad Company, having lent Turkey a considerable sum, has ■ obtained a renewal of the right to construct and work the gulf section, or financial axU rantages facilitating the completion of the line. Negotiations with jthe Porte since March, 1911, concerniitig various countries' proportionate participation, hitherto .have been resultkss. It is understood that the Anslo-Turlrish Agreement deals chieflv with Britain's special position in the Gulf."
Other accounts state that, after delicate negotiating between Sir Edward Grey, Germany, and the Parte, it now has been agreed that the Port of KoWeit should- be Turkey's, subject to Britain's special imprescriptible rights. Hence.it is anticipated that the Bagdad Company will shortly complete arrangements for a big loan to finish the railway.
