Mr Milward, manager of the Pacifia Cable Board, commenting on Canada's recently-announced contract with the Poulsen Wireless Company, foresjadpw* ed a reduction in the cost of coded.cafcla messages to London from 3s to 2s 3d, a saving of fourpenca a word. Though hj« had no information from ihe London office on tha matter, if the wireless system proved efficient and a benefit to the publio the Pacific Company would certainly make arrangements with ths Poulsen Company to carry its messages to Australia.. Whatever reduction of rates could be obtained would b© passed on to the public. At the. same time he looked upon wireless communication across the Atlantic aB in. a (soma' what nebulous state. Something would have to be done to make the system % more reliable than it was at present Jmfore it could be generally weed for eom» mercial or Press purposes.
