AUCKLAND ATHLETICS.
[From Our Correspondent.] The sports meeting in honour of the crew of H.M.S. IS'c.v Zealand was held in the Auckland Domain yesterday. It had been postponed on account of unsuitable weather on the previous Saturday, but the conditions on Wednesday were also unfavourable, the afternoon being showery and the ground very heavy. A. W. Dormer did not compete, as he was suffering from a severe cold. The principal event was a 75yds Invitation Handicap, in which L. J. Mark and J. J. Mulvihill, of Auckland, and A. Barry, of H.M.S. Now Zealand, competed. This was won by Mulvihill by a foot«n Bsec. Mark did not get away as well as Mulvihill. and suffered defeat as above. Barry was outclassed. Other results were : 75yd? Mark got to tho front iu the &traight., but Carolan boat him in the finish. Several events i'or the man-of-wars - men were run off. Barry won the 100 yds in 11 2-ssec. and the 880 yds in 2mi'n 27 2-osec. ' Barry's team won the SSOyds Relay Race in Imin 59sec. The meeting resulted m a loss ot about £ls. ~„.
