SACRAMENTO. April 29
Mr Bryan, Secretary of State, conferred with Californian legislators. The latter urged that laws already were in existence in Arizona and Washington States directed against aliens. California simply sought to follow suit. Governor Johnson defended the legislators' action, indicating that any arguments by Mr Bryan were not likely to influence the State's action. Mr Bryan reported the proceedings to Washington, and asked for further instructions. The conference has adjourned.
DEMAND FOR WAR CHEERED
EXCITEMENT IN TOKIO
A demand upon tho Japanese Government to resort to arms was hysterically cheered at a mass meeting that has been held in Tokio to protest against the passage of the Alien Land Bill in California, states a cable message to the Sydney " Sun." Twenty thousand people attended the gathering. All the speakers denounced the Government for its submissive attitude over the objectionable Californian legislation. Tlie leading newspapers condemn the meeting as undignified and unworthy of the nation, and declare that it was incited by a lot of political demagogues,
