"COMRADE" COOK VOTES.
RELEASED FROM DURANCE VILE
LAST NIGHT
A NOCTURNAL SUMMONS
"Comrade"' Cooke was just composing himself to sleep in his cell at Lyttelton Gaol last night for a month's hard labour, when the bolts were thrown back, a warder put- his head in the door and announced that lie was a free man.
"'Comrade" Cooke was apprehended yesterday for refusing to pay a fine of £2 and costs imposed for addressing a public meeting at tlio Clock Tower without a permit. He was taken to Lvtielton with Mr E. J. Howard, who was arrested for a similar reason, but in the interval the fine was paid. ''Comrade'' Cooke emerged from a taxi-cab early this morning, and recorded his rote at the Provincial Council Chamber. He appeared to be glad of the opportunity, although slightly nettled over the fact that some interfering well-wish or had paid his fine.
