BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RICOARTON.

The Riccarton Borough Council met last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr J. Reynolds) and Councillors Helliwell, Waddell, Hampton, George, Dalley, Ford and Hanna.

Accounts amounting to £lOl 8s 3d were passed for payment. The representatives of the Council appointed to confer with the Waimairi County Council with a view to obtaining a settlement of accounts reported—(l) That the adjustment of accounts between the two bodies should be on a basis of rateable valuation as existing on March 31, 1913; (2) that the Auditor-General should be asked to adjust the accounts between the two bodies and that he should be authorised to get a revaluation of the assets; (3) that the costs of the adjustment should be divided' equally between the two bodies; (4) that the Waimairi County Council should make application to the Auditor-General to take action immediately in the matter of the adjustment of accounts. The report was adopted. The tenders of Messrs Triggs and Denton of £5 18s 4d for the supply of 200 dog collars, and of F. Harper of £491 8s for 176 chains of asphalt were accepted. The Works Committee reported that the Gas Company could not see its way to erect two gas lamps in Clarence Road, and recommended the purchase and erection of two methylated spirit lamps. The clerk was authorised to appoint a ranger for the borough, to receive the impounding fees for all cattle impounded. Considerable discussion ensued on the Works Committee's recommendation to spread the whole of the footpaths in Whiteleigh Avenue with oxide of iron, and on the motion of Councillor Waddell it was resolved to apply the oxide only to the worst parts. The Mayor thanked the councillors for their assistance during the past three months and expressed the wish that those councillors who were seeking re-election would be successful. On the nfotion of Councillor Ford it was resolved to place on record the Council's appreciation of the services rendered to the borough, by Councillors I>alley, Hanna and Harvey, all of whom are retiring from the Council. Councillor Dalley suitably returned thanks.
