CHINA AND THE CHURCHES.
+ THE APPEAL FOR PRAYER. A HEARTY RESPONSE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received April 29, 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 28. The Archbishop of Sydney, preaching in Wsetminster Abbey, said that China, which had shut her doors against Christianity and martyred its missionaries, now appealed to the Christians to turn to God for them. The Christians had not refused the appeal. Devotional services were held at the Chinese legation where Chinese students offered prayer and the hymn "Rock of Ages" was sung. Lord William Cecil pronounced the benediction. In 10,000 Sunday schools 2,244,608 teachers and scholars prayed.
