In conformity with Mr Winston Churchill's naval statement made early in March, steamers belonging to various lines are now being armed by the Admiralty. Light guns and mountings are being placed on board, and subsidies will be paid with a view to the vessels being put at the disposal of the Admiralty in the event of war. The Royal Mail Company's steamer Argon 'will sail to-m'orrow from the Thames equipped with two guns.
