REORGANISATION AUTHORISED
BOARD OF GOVERNORS' DECISIONS.
The ease of the Public. Library was before the Board of Governors of Canterbury College yesterday, when authority was given for a reorganisation of the institution.
Arrangements for the preliminary steps wero set out in the report of the Library and Museum Committee, which recommended-
" That, as the declaratory judgment; in reference to -tho Library states that the Public Library is the Library intended by tho Canterbury Museum and Library. Ordinance, 1870, and as it further states that the Board cannot transfer its responsibilities in respect thereto, the Board should take such step 3as are necessary to place: the Library on a satisfactory ba.si3, and, as a first step thereto, the whole of the Library staff should be given three months' notice, with right to apply for future positions. "That applications for the position of chief librarian, at a salary of £3OO. with house, fuel and lighting, should be at once advertised for.
"That other positions on the staff should not be filled till a chief librarian has been appointed." The report was considered in committee and adopted. Mr Howard Strong's resignation as chief librarian was accepted by the Board.
