—-t. RETURNS FOR OCTOBER. [From Oon Correspondent.] WELLINGTON. November 28. The death rate at Dunedin was the highest, and that at Wellington the lowest last month. The details are:— Auckland and suburbs 0.86, Wellington and. suburbs 0.75, Christchurch and suburbs 0.82, Dunedin and suburbs 1.12. The total births in the four chief cities and their_ suburban boroughs amounted to 758, against (346 in August, an increase of 112. Tho deaths in September wero 249, an increase of four as compared with last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 13U, females 113. 1' iftythrea of the deaths wore of children uu'W five years of age, being 21.29 per cln. u of the whole number, and fortytwo of these were under one year of age. There were eighty-one deaths of persons of sixty-fire years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against ninety-three in August.
