♦ ■ 19 , FRIENDSHIP CONFERENCE. United Press Association—By Electrid Telegraph—Copyright. (Received October 31, 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 30. The Anglo-Gorman friendship conference opened at Guildhall, Sir Frank Lascelles and Count Ton Leyden being the joint presidents. Mr Ernest Schuster said that, there "must he much 'misunderstanding in Loth countries, particularly in England, when, men like Lord Roberts affirmed that war was inevitable. The Kaiser and the German nation' abhorred the idea, of war for territorial gain. ' The "Evening Standard" says that Lord Roberts deserved Sir E; * Grey's' chilling rebuke. As Lord Rohevts's enthusiasm sometimes.carried him beyond prudence and good souse, his statements were harmful to the cause he bad at heart', especially when prudent people were endeavouring to. establish better relations.
