ARTHUR'S PASS TUNNEL.
[Feoji Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, August 13. Mr Murdoch Mac Lean, the contrac-j tor for the Arthur's Pass tunnel, at a contract price of £600,000, lias petitioned Parliament, through Mr T. Y.. Seddon, praying the Government to carry out the work as a public undertaking, and release his firm from the contract on equitable terms, on the ground that it is _ impossible, under present labour conditions, for any private contractor to secure the necessary labour in the dominion or elsewhere.
