mittee Mr Kennedy was elected chairman, Mr Brown secretary, and Mr Pentecost treasurer. PAPANCI. The annual meeting of householders of the Papanui district, was held last evening, when Mr R. W. Hnwke presided over a very small attendance. The report stated that the roll at the beginning of the year was 289, and closed with 2/5. During the year a bicyclo shed had been huilt for the benefit of the children. Early in February a fire had destroyed the boys' outbuildings, which had not yet been replaced. A deputation had waited upon the Hoard regarding a new school, and the Board had replied that three rooms would be replaced by up-to-date rooms in brick at an early date. The inspectors' report stated the school continued to do excellent work. During the season 57 children had learned to swim. The balance-sheet stated that at the beginning of the year there was a credit balance of £5 10s 7d, with an outstanding account of £lO. This had been paid. Mr Arlington moved, as a recommendation to the incoming committee, that in future the parents should be informed of the annnp.l meeting by instructions received by the children from the headmaster. Mr Hawke moved that the power of school committees should be increased, and that it should be a recommendation to the members of Parliament to use their influence to bring this about. A hearty vote of thanks to the outgoing committee and the chairman was carried unanimously. Ten candidates were nominated for election, and the following were elected : —Messrs F. ft. Jones, R. Newell. P. Patt.riek T. Hookbatn, J. Pye. S. Morgan, H. Livingstone, M. J. Lynskev and J. Ketle. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, held after, Mr F. E. Jones was elected chairman.

ADDINGTON. A meeting of householders in the Addington schoolroom last evening was largely attended. Mr A. L, Gourlav accupied the chair. The annual report stated that by the erection of the Somerfield school the area of the district had been reduced. The committee conveyed its thanks to the parents for the staunch support given by them to the headmaster and staff. The attendance had been satisfactory. The present roll was 653, and the average attendance 600, but these figures would have to be increased if the school was to retain its present grade. The presentation of two banners to the school had exercised a marked influence on the attendance. The school had been raised to grade X, and the staff had therefore been increased by two additional assistant teachers. Mr A. R. Blank, second assistant-master, had resigned, and Mr T. Y. C. Wilkin, of Richmond school, had been appointed in his stead. The school had upheld its reputation in the honours list. Allan Woodfield won a Somes scholarship, admitting him to Chrst's College, and two others also obtained scholarships. The Chief Inspector of Schools had given a highly satisfactory report. The Rev W. S. Bean had done excellent work in the religious instruction classes. Various technical and manual classes, in cooking. laundry, find Woodwork, had been well attended, and great progress had been made. Swimming, in spite of the bad season, had been ably superintended by Miss Blank and Miss Foster. Additions in the form of two bugles and an extra tarket had been made to the equipment of the cadets. New books had been added to the library, which now contained over 900 volumes, and was well patronised. Some pictures had been presented to' the school by the School of Art, and some others by Miss Steeds to the infant school. Various improvements had been made; a deep well had been sunk at a cost of £65. An application to the Board for sewerage connection had been made, and gas had been laid on.

The balance-sheet, showing a credit of £6 18s 3d was adopted. The chairman Btated the regrets of the committee that despite the exercise of economy, the incidental allowance was insufficient to the efficient working of the school. A resolution to the effect that the incidental allowance was totally inadequate was carried unanimously. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs William Bowden, W. G. Burns, John Down, W. W. Gibson, A. L. Gourlay, D. M'Cracken, T. Spiller, R. Walls, and M. W. Woodfield. Subsequently Mr M. W. AVoodfield was elected chairman, and Mr "\V. Johnson secretary and treasurer for the ensuing year. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Seay and the teaching staff, and to the caretaker, Mr F. Jackson and his wife, was passed.

LYTTELTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders in tho Lyttelton High School district was well attended. Mr J. T. Brice presided. The report stated that the attendance during the year had been very fair, the highest daily average being iu the month of June, when it reached 494, with a roll number of 522. The attepdanoe in the secondary department might, with advantage to pupils who had passed the sixth standard, be muoh larger than during the past year. Tlie report of the inspectors was very satisfactory. Four pupils .of the secondary classes had passed the Civil Service examination, and all the pupil teachers had been successful in their examination. The school buildings and grounds were in excellent order, and a promise had been made by the Education Board that some worn and dilapidated school furniture would be replaced shortly. Tho woodwork and cookery classes had been fully attended, and good progress had been made. The Cadet corps, numbering ninety, was doing good work in company and physical drill. The school rifle range was completed toward the end of last year, and would be a valuable adjunct to the training of tho boys. Over fifty girls had joined tho school swimming club, and had been instructed by the members of the Lyttelton Ladies' Club. Tho balance-sheet showed that receipts. including credit balance from the previous year, had been £132 12s 4d, and expenditure £ll7 3s sd, leaving a credit of £ls 8s lid. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Votes of thanks to the headmaster (Mr E. U. Just) and his staff, to the secretary and the caretaker, who have resigned their positions after many years service, and to Mr W. Radcliffe, who had been a member of the committee for twenty-one years, were carried.

The following were, elected as the committee for the ensing year:—Dr C. H. Upham, Messrs W. Brown, J. Pitcaithlv C. E. Curtis. E. R. Curtis, S. W. Mitchell, W. Taylor, W. T. Foster and W. T. Lester. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr E. R. Curtis was elected chairman, and Mr J. T. Brice secretary. WEST LYTTELTON. At the annual meeting of householders of the West Lyttolton School district last evening Mr 0. P. 0. Kempthorne presided. The annual report stated that the inspector's report showed the school to be exceptionally well conducted, with excellent results. During the past twelve months the grounds were improved at a cost of about £6O, making a sum of £3OO spent on the grounds during the past sixteen yeans. The school had also been painted and renovated throughout. The daily average attendance was 163.4. The roll closed with 175. The balance sheet showed receipts for the year amounting to £758 19s lid and expenditure £7ll 12s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £47 7s 4d. The election of a committee resulted as follows:—Mrs F. M. The annual report of the Elnnvood School Committee, submitted to the meeting of householders last night, stated that the attendance continued to increase, being now 587. The increased attendance had severely taxed the accommodation of the school, and the question of increased accommodation must be taken in hand at once by the incoming committee. Religious instruction was. given in the school, but only a very small percentage of the children took advantage of it. The report was adopted. « The following committee was elected : Messrs ,1. 0. Adams, R. S. M'Kenzie, C. H. W. Turner, G. E. Calmer, R. S. Gibson, A. Winterburn, A. S. Howard, W. C. Fleming and H. V. Free.

The following resolutions wore passed: "That this meeting of householders requests the Government to grant the original 9d per head capitation, as the shortage of funds is crippling most of the committees." "That this meeting of householders request the Education Board to reconsider its resolution for purchase of section enlarging the school grounds and bath." Both these resolutions were directed to be sent to the Education Board. WHARENUI. The Rev J. de B. Galwey presided over the annual meeting ofAVharenui householders. The report, which was adopted, stated that the year's accounts closed with a credit balance of £l7 6s 6d, -but there were outstanding liabilities amounting to £2O 7s IIJdT Several improvements had been carried out in and about the school. The committee asked the Education v Board to purchase more land, but unfortunately the price was considered too high. It would bo a, great' benefit to the school if more ground could be obtained. The roll number was 273 and the average attendance 239. The school was rdready over full, and the committee recommended that the Board should be urged to provide more accommodation. The incidental allowance was still insufficient, and the committee had approached tho Government with regard to restoring the 9d capitation grant. A motion was passed asking the Education Board to provide more accommodation for the school. The following committee was elected: Rev J. de B. Galwey, and Messrs F. G. Coombes, F. G. Harris, H. H. Milne, S. Purse, T. Stokes. E. J. Foster, J. J. Young and Yv. Palmer. CASHMERE. Tli© annual meeting of householders was held at the schoolroom, Cashmere Hills, last evening. There was a fair attendance, and Mr A. Currie was voted to the chair. The annual report stated that the school had had a very successful year. The number on the roll had increased to 97. All the pupils presented foT proficiency certificates had been successful, and one pupil had gained a Board scholarship. A shelter shed had been erected during the year, and was greatly appreciated by the children. Much-needed addition's to the school were now in progress. An attempt had been made to obtain an extension of tho grounds, but owing to the high price demanded, nothing had been done in this direction.

Tlio following were elected a committee:—Mr_ A. Currio (chairman), Mesdair.es King and Speight, Messrs A. W. King, C. L. M'Crostie, G. A. D. Sutherland and F. A. Pvne.

RICCARTON.

There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of householders. Mr Taylor was in the chair. The balancesheet showed receipts totalling £B6 lis 4.d, and expenditure to £63 9s lid, outstanding accounts £ll 17s 2d, credit balance £ll 4s 3d. The following were elected a committee Messrs Clia.se, Manhire, Bucknell, Roxwortliy, Townsend, Blakeway, Kidman, Purvis and Clark. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr Manhire was elected chairman, and Mr Bucknell secretary.

BURWOOD.

At the meeting of householders last evening, 'Mr A. E. Craddock presided over a good attendance. Tho balancesheet showed a credit balance of £lO 10s 3d, and it was reported that £49 10s 3d had been raised- locally for school purposes. The following were elected a committee:—Mr A. E. Craddock (chairman), Rev C. A. Tobin, Messrs J. T. TVoodfield, A. R. Robb, J. Mulholland, R. Mercer and P. J. Do la Cour. BELFAST. Tlie annual meeting of the Belfast householders was held last evening, there being a fair attendance. Mr AV. P. Spencer was voted to the chair. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £7 13s Bd. Messrs TV. P. Spencer (chairman). H. Watson (secretary), E. Harris, R. White. P. Poole, TV. Farman, J. Cleland, J. Halligan jun., and Rev H. A. Wilkinson were elected a committee for the ensuing year. ' RANGIORA. Thirty householders attended a meeting at Itangiora last night to elect a school committee for the ensuing year. Mr J. Sansom was in the chair. The retiring committee's report stated that £914 had been spent in salaries and incidentals, leaving a credit balance of £lO 12s Gd. A number of changes had taken place in the teaching staff. Very favourable reports had been received from the inspectors, and in the Sixth Standard pass examination out of twenty-one scholars seventeen had gained proficiency and two competency passes. Two pupils had also obtained scholarships. An unsatisfactory feature in connection with the school was the continued decrease in tho roll number, there being a loss of sixteen for the year. The outgoing committee— Rev F. P. Fendall, Messrs H. Boyd, R. Ball, S. Barrell, C. I. Jennings, F. B. Lane, J. Marshall, W. McGruer and J. Sansom—was re-elected. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the headmaster, Mr T. TV. Ambrose, and his staff, and to the local ministers for giving religious instruction. Mr H." Boyd was re-elected chairman of tho committee, and Mr J. B. Wilson secretary, KAIAPOI. r The meeting of householders of the Kaiapoi School District, held last evening, was presided over by Mr A. 0. Ashby. The balance-sheet for the past year, showing a credit balance of £9 lis 3d and liabilities amounting to £2B 15s Id, and the annual report were adopted. Tho following committee was elected :—Messrs E. Mallisch, C. Bennett, T R.. Leithead, F. Clark. G. McGregor, J. Brvden, A. G. Ashby, H. Pnrnham and the Rev J. Reid. "At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr A. G. Ashby was elected chairman. ASHBURTON. At the meeting of householders at Ashburton the following committee was elected : —Messrs TemjJleton, B. T. Missen, H. P. Mercer. T. M. Clark. W. F. Samuels, T. H. Undrill, TV. Iv. Watson and T. Haves and the Rev TV. J. Elliott. Mr Missen was re-elected chairman and Mr J. B. Christian was re-elected secretary and treasurer. A motion was passed at the meeting in favour of the New South Wales system of Bible teaching. HAMPSTEAD. At Hampstead, Messrs TV. Thompson (chairman), J. Dalley, J. Kerr, E. Childs, G. Culvorhouse, J. Rumsay (J. W. Andrews and TV. Strange and'the Rev T. R. B. Woiloxai! were elected members of the committee. A motion was carried in favour of the New South Wales system of Bible teaching.
