BOROUGH COUNCILS.

TEMUKA. The fortnightly meeting of the Temuka Borough Council was held on Friday evening; present : —the Mayor (the Hon T. Buxton, M.P.), Councillors D M'lnnes, J. J. Ellis, H. Bell. ,W." F. ,Evans, A. 11. Curtis, C. Lasliic, A. Frew, and S. B. Norton. The Mayor referred to the fart that Councillor Maling whs absent through illness. He felt sure that the Council would express its sympathy with Councillor Maling and his family, and hope that be would soon be restored to health. The Mayor stated that he had seen the General Manager of Railways when in Wellington recently, and had mentioned the matter of the Denmark Street crowing. Tlio General Manager thought that the Department would be willing to provide electric! bells at the crossing, but was doubtful as to the road being widened. The Returning Officer wrote, stating that as tlie only nomination for the position of Mayor was that of Colonel J. T. M. Haylnirstj he was duly elected Mayor for the ensuing year. A request that the roadway in Fraser Street should be extended, as there was not at the present time a convenient or suitable-footpath, was referred to the Works Committee. Itwas decided to erect a lamp at the Comer of Alexander and Hamilton Streets, one at the corner of Hayburst and Denmark Streets, and ono at the corner of Godley and Davie
