THE TRAMWAY BOARD.
RETIREMENT OF MR REECE. An election of members of the Christchurch Tramway JJoard will take place in May, and .Mr W. Reece, who has been a member of the Hoard since it came into existence ten years ago, has announced that he will not bo a candidate for a seat again. Mr Reece was Mayor of Christchurch when the proposal to establish an electrical system of tramways was taken up in earnest. He was chairman ot the committee appointed to make preliminary arrangements, arid he was unanimously appointed the first chairman of the Hoard. When the Board came into existence it had a great deal of work before it 3 especially in regard to the "lay-out.," the appointment of officers and' the letting of the contracts for construction and other items, and Mr Rrece and the other members found that they had a very hard task, especially as the Board's critics came forward in battalions, and were not sparing in their remarks.
Mr Reece now feels that, after ten years' work, he can fairly claim that he might he allowed to retire and t< make room for new blood.
