\ ■ —■■ • [Per Peuss Association.] GORE, November 2, Mr Andrew Mai'tin, oi : Goro, who was asked to contest tho Clutha soat in the Liberal interest,s, has definitely decided not to stand, the time at his disposal too short. PROBABLE DATE OF ELECTION. A report is abroad to tho eiiect that the general election will be held for certain in the first week of December. Tho proroguing of Parliument till November -20 gives a cluo to the date. Parliament will expire by effluxion of timo on November 21, and after that it will take at least thirteen or fourteen days before the election can bo held. This would bring tho date to about December 6 or 7. Mr 0. Cook, a candidate for Lytt-ol-ton, addressed a meeting at Port Levy last night, and received a vote of thanks. Mr J. E. Pefclierick has called a meeting of his friends and supporters for to-morrow evening at his committee rooms. Cathedral Square.
