HOCKEY.
THIS AFTERNOON'S GAMES. The uncompleted competitions were continued to-day in warm weather. On the Polo Ground the Addington First Grade tcim played a visiting eleven from Akaroa. ADDINGTON v. AKAKOA. The ground was in iirst-rato order, and although some int-c-rcstiup; play occasionally took place the visitors were hopelessly outclassed, and were eventually defeated by eleven goals, scored by Ohampucss (4), A. Rankin (3), Smith (3) and Chaoplo, to two goals, shot by G. Henning." Mr C. P. Agar was referee. SECOND GRADE. Sydenham Park Lyttelton defeated the home team by four goals, scored by Twomey (2), Bamford and Cousins, to two goals, shot by Cummings and Holland. Air L. Cusworth was referee. Playing at St Albans Park,' Bible Class defeated St Luke's by eight goals to nil. Tho scorers were Johnston (3), M'Whirter (2), Napier (2) and M'Leod. Mr T. M. Rice was referee. FOURTH GRADE. At Sydenham Park, St Albans and Sydenham played a drawn game, each side scoring three goals. For Sydenham J. Patrick, G. Patrick and Mather scored, ami for St Albans L. Darter (2) and Greenwood shot goals. Mr J. W. Sinies was referee. Christ-church, playing with five men, defeated St Peters, who had seven men, by two goals, scored by Wright and Bastion, to nil. Mr C. Collins was referee. LADIES' GAMES. The final trial match for the selection of the team to tour the Peninsula was played on the North Park to-day. The ground was in gcod condition, but tho play was net very interesting. The names of the players comprising the team will appear next week. TRIAL MATCH. The A team defeated the B team by two goals to one. The scorers for the winning team were Misses L. Rowe and L. 31'Lachlan, and Miss E. Curry shot successfully for tho losers. Mr A. P. Stubberneld was the referee. The play was open and fast at times, but was not nearly as interesting as that shown by tho same nlavers in the trial match last Saturday. JUNIOR COMPETITION. Digby's B were defeated by St Margaret's by four goals to nil. The goals were shot by Misses R. "Withers (2), E. Birdling and D. Hamilton. Miss Grace was referee. The annual match between the Senior and Junior teams of the 'iuahine Club whs played to-day, and resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. During tho first spell Miss M. Ritchie, of the Senior team, had the misfortune to badly sprain her ankle in one of the gutters which mark the side lines. Most of the players in tho Senior team are giving np h-cekey at tbe end of this sea sen, and as a result the club will probably bo disbanded. Mr S. V. Massey referred. WAIMAIRI COUNTY v. CITY COUNCIL. The Waimairi county councillors have decided to again take vho field as exponents of the ancient and honourable game of hockey, and they have challenged th? members of the Christcliurch City Council to a game at Lancaster Park on Thursday at 3 p.m. The challenge has been accepted, and great interest, is being taken in the match. A collection is to be taken up in aid of tho King George Memorial Heme, and the funds of the institution will probably benefit considerably. Although the county councillors have shown that they possess great ability in this particular branch of sport, the City Fathers are confident of a win. Following are the teams selected:—Goal, H. B. Sorensen; three-quarters, W. Id. Cooper (captain) and T. Gapes; halves, C. D. Morris. J. J. Dougall and W. R. Smith; forwards, H. Hunter, A. Williams. A. D. Hart, A. S. Taylor and AV. Millar; emergencies, ti. H. Holland, E. Smith and F. Burgoyne. Waimairi County Council—Goal, S. Bullock; three-quarters, R. W. Hawke and S. A. Staples; halves. J. Cleliand. J. Parish and J. H. Sharps : forwards, F. Sisson, J. Bosoinworth. W. P. Spencer, W. J. Walter (captain) and J. Hanna. LADTES' IXTERPB OYINCIAL MATCH. OTAGO (2) v. CANTERBURY (0). [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, August 19. The Otago Indies'team beat the Canterbury ladies' representative ream at hockey to-day by two.goals to nil. jTnoii Our Correspondent.] The spectators of the interprorincial ladies' hockey match were treated to a sparkling -exhibition of fast and scientific heckey, in which both teams showed to advantage. There were no dull moments, play travelling from end to end of tiie ground rapid y right through both spells. Otago's r.vo gerds were scored by Misses Brunc 1 .-: and E. Foster in the first spell. The home team's win was due to superior combination in the forwards. Tho ground favoured the fast, open game, and with two well-rna.tched teams the result ivas about the best ladies' match yet seen in Dunediu.
