THE PACIFIC FLEET.
VIEWS OF THE "TIMES." TJBitod Press Association—By Elootrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, March 18. _ The "Times" declares that it is curious, perharas significant, that the debates in the House of Commons are almost silent upon the dominions pre- ] parations to assist the Motherland in sea defence. Admiral Henderson s report has attracted wide attention, likewise Sir Joseph Ward's speech at Sydney. The dominions recognise by past co-operation that changes may occur rendering it advisable to re-es-tablish the basis of the Far Eastern tieet, necessitating the inclusion of Dreadnoughts. If Admiral Henderson s proposals are accepted, Australia may provide two armoured cruisers in 1910 instead of one. If India, Ceylon and the Straits Settlements combine with Australia to provide a moiety of the Eastern fleet,' the Homeland could not decline to supply the other half. Twelve armoured cruisers in the Pacific would bo none too many.
