TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL. A meeting of the Canterbury Irades and Labour Council was held on Saturday Mr G. R. Whiting, president, m the chair. It was decided in connection with the Coronation medals that at the election of school committees a protest should be made regarding the action of the Government in having the medals manufactured out of the dominion. The delegates appointed, by the Council to confer with the iron industry's delegates reported on the business done, and it was resolved— lhat the action of the delegates be approved, and we will support any duty be-i'-ig placed on imported articles." Iho report of the sub-committee set up wmo time ago regarding the domestic help difficulty was adopted. Notice ot secession from the Council was received from the Canterbury Carpenters and Cycle Trade Unions. It was resolved tliat Messrs Whiting and Sullivan should be a deputation to wait on those unions. The Freezing Works Union wrote protesting against tho Council passing a resolution constituting itself a district branch of the Federation oi , Labour, and notice of motion was tabled 'that the resolution should bo rescinded. A special meeting of the Council was held on Saturday for the purpose of receiving tho annual report of tho Council's delegate (Mr H. R- • Ruabridge) on the Board of the Technical ColWe and electing a representative for the ensuing year. Tho report was adopted and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Rusbridge for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties. Mr F. Meyer was appointed the Council's representative on the Board for the ensuing year.
