WORK AND WAGES.
THE IMPLEMENT TRADE. COMPULSORY CONFERENCE CALLED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 16, 9.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 16. The president of the Federal Arbitration Court has called a compulsory conference with a. view to settling the implement trade dispute. [Per Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, March 16. The "Post" states that since the Blackball coal miners' award expired, negotiations between the men and the company for a new working agreement have not resulted in a settlement of the points in dispute. The chief stumbling-block is the demand of the men that the company shall do the trucking. It is claimed that if this is conceded the extra cost will reduce the company's profits to a large extent.
