The South Africans have commenced a two days' match against an eighteen of the Barrier Ranges Association at Broken Hill. South Africa has lost eight wickets for 457. Faulkner not out 221, and Sckwarz 69 were the chief scorers.

The J. 0. Williamson Opera Company was defeated by a Christchurch team at Hagley Pa-rk yesterday. Th« Opera Company scored 208 (Ratcliffe 40, Barrass 41, Howe 40, Healy 40) and the Christchurch team 226 for seven wickets (E. T. Harper 54, A. Sims 44 retired, S. A. Orchard 27, C. R. Clark 24). Dr O'Brien, A. Sims, A. W. Thomas, ¥. Wilding and P. C. Raphael for Christchurch, and Hogue, Ratcliffe, Quartly and Healy for the Opera Company, took the wickets. The sub-committee set up to make arrangements for the smoiko concert to close the season has decided to hold it on Monday, April 3, in the Chamber of Commerce. The presentation of cups won in the respective grades will be made during the evening. The annual matches between the representatives of the Banks and Government Departments will be playea on Friday, commencing at 10 a..m. The Government teams are as follows: No. I—James Chapman, Dwyer, Gerard, Mansell, Martin, Maofarlane, Mackenzie, Porter, Reese and Johnson. No. 2—Anderson, Joseph Chapman, Condliffe, Eames, Graham, Johnston, Hutchins, Murray (captain), Shand, Treweek, Webb and Wiggins. No. 3 Brooker (captain), Browne, Crothers, Dwyer, Duffield, Eccleton.
