SWIMMING.
[Pee Pbjcss Association.] AUCKLAND, March 14. M. E. Champion, swimming at the Waitemata Club's carnival, held in the Albert Street baths to-night, broke the Now Zealand record for 100 yds (63 l-ssec), held by C. Brice, of Thorndon, Wellington. He covered the distance in 61 4-ssec. The carnival was held for the purpose of raising funds to keep Champion's family while he is away from Auckland. Champion is determined not to go to the Festival of Empire sports unless the sum of £BO is provided for his family's maintenance,,. A special effort will be made to-morrow to raise the balance required (about £4O). The carnival tonight will show a profit of about £3 only.
About 4.30 on Monday afternoon, eays the " Otago Daily Times," some residents of Mornington saAv what they state "must have been an airship" in the direction of Anderson's Bay. When first seen the object was apparently stationary; but soon afterwards it moved in a south-easterly direction. Later it came back, and then circled round and finally disappeared about twenty minutes after it was first seen.
