A COMPLETE REFUTATION.

With reference to our disclaimer which appeared in the papers last week, ,we regret that we are compelled to refer to this matter again. As we pointed out before, statements •have been circulated connecting -us with certain firms. We did not consider it necessary at the time to mention any names, but. concluded that a fair-minded public would take our word for what we said. A section of the public, however, still seem to be under an erroneous impression, and a circumstance has been brought under our notice to-day which compels us to make. our position absolutely clear. The circumstance we refer to is that a worker in one of the largest establishments in Christchurch, who knows tho facts as regards our business, and has been championing our new venture—namely, selling our goods direct to tho public at wholesale prices—has had his statements as to any other firm not being interested in our business, challenged. The firm referred to is George Davies. Some misconception may have arisen in the public mind through our once having owned a factory in the premises now occupied by George Davies, opposite His 1 Majesty's Theatre, Manchester Street, and which factory we sold to George Davies some considerable time ago, as a going concern, for his use as tailoring workrooms. However, we publish below a copy of a circular issued by us to the retail shops early last year:

DISCLAIMER. 147, Cashel Street, Christchurch, March 1910. Dear Sirs, — It having, come to our knowledge that statements are being circulated with reference to an alleged connection between ourselves and a certain local firm, to wit, Mr George Davies, we take this opportunity of emphatically denying such statements. We will pay the sum of £IOO to any charitable institution on any porson proving that Mr Davies has, or ever had, any interest in this Company, or that we (the Crown Clothing Company) _ have, or ever had, any interest in Mr Davies's business. We arc prepared to show our books, or refer persons to our bankers, the Bank of Australasia. Further, as tho statements circulating have already done us injury, we intend to take legal proceedings against any person or persons making such statements. Yours faithfully, For the CROWN CLOTHING MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. JAS. HUNTER GEO. HANCOX Directors.
