THE TROTTING CUP.
NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN CLUB. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. The New Zealand. Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting, wnich will be commenced at Addington to-morrow, will mark a new era in the history of trotting in Canterbury., and, indeed, in New Zealand. The extensive alterations and improvements which the club has had in hand for some months past will be seen by the public for the first time, and to visitors who have had no previous experience of the Addington course the complete nature of the appointments will •come as a great surprise. The now grandstand, which is a handsome structure, is the largest building of its kind in New Zealand, having seating accommodation for 2509 people, while as many more can be seated in the other stands. Another feature that will make the meeting memorable is the fact that for the first time in the history of trotting in the dominion the programme includes a race with a stake of 1000 sovs. The acceptors for this event, seventeen in number, are all proved performers over two miles, and it is quite safe to say that there has never been a race in New Zealand which has attracted, such a high-class field, or which gave promise of such an interesting contest. The chances of quite a number of the candidates have been freely canvassed 6ince the handicaps appeared, and, judging by the times which have been registered on the training tracks, it seems safe to predict that the winner will have to improve considerably on its best previous public record. ■ The other events on the programme have all drawn good fields, both in the matter of numbers and quality, and altogether the day's racing promises to be exceptionally interesting. The first event will be started, at 12.80 p.m. The following is the programme:— . SPRING HANDICAP (in saddle), of ISO sovs, second horse 22 sovs and third lior«f 15 Sovs from the stake.
